Article : Taking medication for your mental health is not a sign of weakness

[Metro UK] People take medication for a lot of conditions: cancer, heart problems, diabetes and asthma, to name a few. It’s normal to take medication to help you get better when you’re not well.

Except for when that medication is to help you live with mental illness.

Then there’s still a huge stigma.

People with mental illnesses are often told to try to walk it off, or simply to try harder.

Which is ridiculous as a person with anxiety can no more snap out of it than a person can try harder to get rid of asthma.

Erin Jones tried to combat this stigma earlier this month with a selfie on Facebook where she showed her prescription for anti-depressants.

She said: ‘Anxiety and antidepressant medication to the rescue. Sometimes, folks, we just need help.’
